I want to thank everyone who has written to me over the last few days. Whether it was positive or negative, I appreciate encountering real passion in whatever form it takes. I wrote what is below in response to a thoughtful comment I received, and felt it might be worth sharing with anyone who comes across my page in the days to come. Change can be difficult, I really do understand this. It's especially difficult because this update is such a large one. Usually updates are rolled out more incrementally on networks like ours, so the differences are less glaring. Unfortunately the old version of DA did not get this steady diet of modifications over the years, so this redesign feels a little more jarring as we give the site it's first rejuvenation in many years. We've written personal and public statements saying we're listening to concerns but honestly they mainly fall on deaf ears. I get why too - take an instance where people ask for a change or a feature and we totally agree and

The Call of the Rift: A Compendium
The Call of the Rift is a YA fantasy series inspired by historic conflicts between Canadian First Nations and European colonists during the Age of Sail. Book #3 Crest is out now! I did an interview on CBC Radio with a journalist from my hometown, talking about lilacs: the colonial history of them, how iconic they've become in that part of Canada, and how I wrote them into Crest. Take a listen in the June 10th episode on Daybreak North; the segment starts at 54:30 and my interview starts at 59:07. The audiobook is up on

Greetings, Dear CommunityOK. I know there is a lotta crazy stuff going on the world right now. Perhaps we at CRLiterature (https://www.deviantart.com/crliterature) can help distract you from it or even help you bring awareness to a particular thing that’s got ahold of you. With this journal, I’m hoping to rouse some buzz and interest in CRLiterature (https://www.deviantart.com/crliterature), NaPoWriMo (https://www.deviantart.com/napowrimo) and poetry, in general, with a contest. And what better way to solicit a steady stream of fresh April words than with the promise of prizes and fanfare?
Back in 2014, I decided to actively write poetry again after a long break… and,

Considering the current events and the crisis we are all going through due to Covid-19 and the consequent precautions and restrictions, I thought it would be a good time for some helpful hints how to cope with this unprecedented and for many of us anxious situation.
For some of us, it might be even a good 'excuse' for staying (alone) at home and not having to go somewhere. However, for others it might be frightening and also threatening with social isolation. But be aware that 'social dista

dotRAW is a community project aiming to fight the 'beautification' or 'photoshopping' of life in modern society.
The weapon to do so are photographs that allow a peak behind the mask and display contrast rather than only sunshine.
Definition on masks and a common reason for creating and wearing one:
Humans are social by nature. We seek community one way or another and if only to 'gain safety in numbers'.
Sadly, that also means that the urge to be at our best, be likable is very deeply intertwined in our DNA. We want to look or be viewed a certain way and when we largely fail to achieve that we feel our batteries drain slowly. From our earl
